Half of the top 10 foal-producing states increased their number of registered foals from 1998 to 2008, led by Louisiana and New Mexico, where foal production more than doubled. Louisiana, which had been the sixth-largest producer of registered foals in 1998, advanced to fourth in 2008. Similarly, Pennsylvania moved from 10th to sixth during this time and New Mexico leaped from 15th to eighth.
