TJCIS Adds HealthBook Capability to Horse Farm Management

The Jockey Club Information Systems, Inc. (TJCIS) has announced the launch of the HealthBookTM, a customizable module for the company’s Horse Farm Management (HFM) software that enables farm personnel to collect and record reproductive and herd health information in the field through the convenience of a lightweight Tablet PC.

According to Gary Falter, director of product development for TJCIS, the HFM HealthBookTM assists farm managers with timely decision-making in the field while maximizing time and resource savings in the farm office by eliminating duplicate work.

“For years, farm managers have logged field procedures into a thick binder or notebook only to have their office staff re-enter the exact same data into the farm’s computer and onto teasing charts, vet lists and other forms,” he said. “Now, field information can be entered into the HealthBook with a few taps of the stylus and then, when the day’s rounds are complete, uploaded within minutes to the Horse Farm Management software. This allows office personnel to focus on more important tasks instead of redundant data entry.

“The program also provides farm managers immediate access to complete health and reproductive records for every horse on the farm as they make their rounds in the field,” he continued. “In addition to entering medical results, farm managers can quickly review a horse’s history and schedule future procedures such as ultrasound and palpation exams on the spot.”

The HealthBookTM was developed with input from several prominent breeding farms in Central Kentucky, including Darby Dan Farm and Cobra Farm. Among its many features are:

 Easy-to-use point-and-tap interface

 Complete horse health history anywhere on the farm at the tap of a button

 Automatic scheduling of future procedures, including vaccinations and ultrasounds

 Customized terms and codes based on farm specifications

 Seamless information transmission between HFM software and HFM HealthBookTM

 Elimination of duplicate work and potential data entry errors

The HealthBookTM is designed for use with TJCIS’ Horse Farm Management software, a stand-alone PC-based product installed at more than 250 farms nationwide. Future development plans call for the HealthBookTM to interface with the equineline.com Farm Program, an Internet-based service that helps farms manage the business side of their operations more efficiently.
