Welcome to Participants and Guests
Ogden Mills Phipps   Ogden Mills Phipps - Chairman, The Jockey Club

Ogden Mills Phipps: Good morning, everyone, and thank you for being here. For a second consecutive year, this conference is available on a live video stream on The Jockey Club website so I would like to also welcome those who are watching over the Internet. Wherever you are, I think you will sense a deep level of concern about the state of Thoroughbred racing as you hear from the various speakers on today's agenda. There is no doubt that we are addressing some of the most critical issues facing our industry:

  • The health and safety of our athletes
  • Medication
  • And the economic future of our sport

By the time today's program concludes, I think you will detect a sense of tangible and productive activity, a sense of people and organizations collaborating on many fronts to improve conditions.

The Round Table Conference exists to spotlight our issues and seek practical ways to resolve them. You will see examples of that in the next two hours.

At the outset, I want to thank each of our speakers on today's agenda for sharing their time and their reports with us today. We are particularly grateful to Dr. Tim Parkin, who made a long trip from Scotland, to update us on the (Equine) Injury Database.

We will start the program with the Activities of The Jockey Club from our secretary-treasurer, Ian Highet.
