Equibase Announces Final North American Earnings Leaders for 2010

Todd Pletcher, Ramon Dominguez and WinStar Farm LLC finished 2010 as the leading trainer, jockey and owner, respectively, by North American earnings, according to final statistics released today by Equibase Company LLC, the Thoroughbred industry’s official database for racing information.

Blame led all Thoroughbreds in 2010 with North American earnings of $3,751,467. Following Blame was Lookin At Lucky with $2,064,278 and Zenyatta with $1,830,000.

The year-end compilations are distributed annually by Equibase and include results from Thoroughbred racing in North America only from January 1, 2010, through December 31, 2010. Expanded North American racing leaders’ lists that include all trainers, jockeys, owners and horses are available within Stats Central at equibase.com.

Pletcher, who previously topped the trainers’ list from 2004-2007, sent out the winners of 274 races from 1,082 starts for earnings of $23,157,098 in 2010. Runner-up was Steven Asmussen, whose horses won 506 races from 2,412 starts for earnings of $16,308,920 in 2010.

Completing the list of top 10 trainers by North American earnings in 2010 were Bob Baffert, $11,103,463 (124 wins/500 starts); Jerry Hollendorfer, $9,307,328 (286/1,126); William Mott, $8,821,635 (119/693); W. Bret Calhoun, $7,905,716 (233/934); Richard Dutrow Jr., $7,682,144 (137/586); John Sadler, $7,327,753 (115/540); Anthony Dutrow, $6,365,898 (130/447); and Albert Stall Jr., $6,256,602 (61/283).

Ramon Dominguez, with earnings of $16,911,880, topped the annual North American leading jockeys’ list in 2010. Dominguez rode the winners of 369 races from 1,474 mounts. John Velazquez finished second, with 239 wins from 1,192 mounts and earnings of $16,743,328.

Rounding out the list of top 10 jockeys by North American earnings in 2010 were Joel Rosario, $15,897,538 (305 wins/1,335 mounts); Garrett Gomez, $15,689,037 (161/800); Rafael Bejarano, $14,225,120 (310/1,292); Javier Castellano, $13,037,706 (246/1,243); Julien Leparoux, $11,002,083 (173/1,068); Robby Albarado, $10,272,324 (176/1,070); Martin Garcia, $10,151,584 (154/933); and Jose Lezcano, $9,277,682 (170/1,054).

Winstar Farm LLC won 46 races from 248 starts and earned $5,183,379 in North America in 2010 to lead all owners. Runner-up was Midwest Thoroughbreds Inc. with 310 victories from 1,157 starts and earnings of $4,197,480.

Completing the list of top 10 owners by North American earnings in 2010 were Claiborne Farm and Adele B. Dilschneider, $4,163,036 (14 wins/64 starts); Zayat Stables LLC, $4,076,241 (83/397); Repole Stable, $3,747,444 (93/372); Heiligbrodt Racing Stable, $3,655,372 (114/691); Edward P. Evans, $3,617,508 (36/156); Wertheimer and Frere, $3,300,911 (28/110); Maggi Moss, $3,273,216 (171/614); and Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey, $3,127,838 (100/462).

In addition to the official North American racing leaders’ lists available within Stats Central at equibase.com, Equibase also provides a second set of leaders’ lists that includes the results of the Dubai World Cup card from March 27, 2010, at Meydan Racecourse. Including these international earnings, Gloria de Campeao (BRZ) was the leading Thoroughbred with earnings of $6,000,000 and Estrela Energia Stables was the leading owner with earnings of $6,000,000. Todd Pletcher remained the leading trainer with earnings of $23,307,098 and Ramon Dominguez the leading jockey with earnings of $17,411,880.
