The Jockey Club Issues Reminder for Reports of Mares Bred, Live Foals

With the breeding and foaling seasons nearing conclusion, The Jockey Club today issued a reminder to owners and breeders concerning timely submission of Reports of Mares Bred (RMBs) and Live Foal Reports.

RMBs for the 2008 breeding season are due by August 1, and Live Foal Reports should be filed within 30 days of the birth of the foal. Owners of live foals of 2008 who have not yet submitted a Live Foal Report should do so as soon as possible to avoid potential delays in the registration process.

Both reports can be completed online through Interactive RegistrationTM (IR), the preferred method of transacting business with the Registry. In 2007, 76% of mares bred and 65% of live foals were reported through IR at http://www.registry.jockeyclub.com.

“Timely reporting generally leads to a seamless registration process and helps ensure that the breeding and foaling statistics by stallion that we disseminate for the industry’s benefit in the fall are as complete as possible,” said Matt Iuliano, The Jockey Club’s vice president of registration services.

“Registration applications and DNA kits typically are mailed out at approximately 3 to 4 months of age, giving breeders ample time to register their foals within the one-year deadline. Similarly, stallion owners who submit their RMBs by August 1 are usually the first to receive their Service Certificates, which are printed and mailed within days after we receive their RMBs.”

IR is available at no charge and expedites the registration process for its registered users by eliminating several manual processing steps that can affect turnaround time for issuance of Service Certificates, name tags, Certificates of Foal Registration and other documents.

The Jockey Club, founded in 1894 and dedicated to the improvement of Thoroughbred breeding and racing, is the breed registry for North American Thoroughbreds. The Jockey Club fulfills that longstanding commitment by serving the industry through its family of companies and by providing support and leadership on a wide range of important industry initiatives.
